Hello

I will be finishing University in 2 years and hoping to get a mortgage once I've finished. My partner has missed payments and a ccj from 1 year ago with outstanding debts to pay and I have a few missed payments from a year ago but now have a fairly good credit with no debts etc. After two years how likely is it that we will be able to get a joint mortgage? I was told by a previous mortgage advisor that we would have to wait 5 years for the ccj to drop off and our credit files to recover however I was hoping to move sooner.

Thank you

Hi there,

Good news is that I expect it to be highly likely you will be able to achieve a mortgage in 2 years. Whilst we cannot guess the future, so long as there are no further instances of adverse credit then you can be positive.

It is important in the build up to searching that your credit files are accurate for full names, address history, credit management and you are both on the electoral roll.

Lastly, having good conduct on your bank accounts will support an application especially if you do apply whilst the CCJ is still active.

All the best
